Look like bronze

There we go, we are in a long weekend and my family keeps me busy (in a good way) so it has been a little difficult to work in art however I have some progress in my studio, the walls are all primed just ready to color yeah!
well I sneaked out and finished couple projects I needed to frame, let me show you one of them, It looks like bronze but it's actually a patina over terracotta :)

 

 

So busy

Hello guys, I have been so busy with my wedding plans, I can't believe it is so close (March 23) I'm making the favors, centerpieces and cards so imagine how fun and crazy it is!. However I keep working and have couple of projects pending for this couple of weeks. Meanwhile I just posted this in my store...

My old studio wall

Back in 2007 I posted a picture of my studio wall in Venezuela but I didn't say much about it. How I said before art is not art to me if it not shown to the world.
I made it with scratch glass and mirrors from windows shops and some others accidentally broken ;) there is so much work cutting, sanding the corners, gluing direct to the wall then covering with groat that toke me months of full hours; I remember Deborah playing around and to me making sure she is safe and entertained while I was working.

What a painful day

Today wasn't easy to ignore my back pain, but work is work and I have a deadline for this pieces, on the end I felt better and making art heals your soul. I thought about Frida Kahlo and kept going, she is definitely an inspiration to me, we both had the same back surgery and suffer from so much pain but art kept us alive.
OK forget the drama and let me show you what I'm working now...

I choose different handmade items that reminded me my culture.

Wonderful gift

I got art materials as a gift, they bellowed to an artist I never met, he was the owner of Designers Group Int (my former employer) and people there thought I should keep them. I'm really happy with this early Christmas gift and can't wait to make more art, a new approach to me, I don't remember when was the last time I had pastels on my hands, and there is gouache, watercolor and more.





And this is what I had painted so far. 4"x6" on rag paper, I just posted then in my Etsy for sale :)

So rough so beautiful

I'm waiting to the clay to dry out a little bit more to finish this portrait of a beautiful girl, it is so hard to work on kids but I'm looking forward for more commissions about children, it just reminds me when my daughter was little and so sweet...
The bird is just a try out of my new materials, I'll let you know later.



Esperando que este retrato se seque un poco para finalizarlo, aun tengo que hacerle los cortes y refinar algunos detalles. Que bella esta chiquilla tan dulce como algun dia lo fue mi hija, bueno Deborah aun es dulce pero con los detallitos de la adolescencia. como lo llamarias, agridulce? :)
El pajaro es solo un experimento, ya luego dare mas detalle.

My other passion

Did you know I love dancing? maybe not. Well I'm Latin and grew up dancing, now living in US I don't have a close contact with my culture but last weekend we drove to my favorite Latin club "Bella Notte" we danced all night, Salsa, Merengue, Bachata even Cumbia my batteries are charged again!

Mi otra pasion es el baile, no tienes idea lo divino que fue salir a bailar y que finalmente a mi querido se le hayan despertado los pies jajaja en serio la pasamos muy bien, ya tengo las pilas cargadas de nuevo ya me hacia falta el toque latino.

Oh my gosh, my shoots aren't that good, well that is not my field though. I sent a little gift to Giovanni and I was so excited to see how my work will look through his lens and I have to tell you, HE IS AWESOME!
He is a talented photographer and graphic designer and of course a very good friend, I love his company in my chat and always happy to share time with him. Thank you for featuring me on you blog Gio :)

Preventing Depression

I used to suffer depression big time, after years and years struggling with this issue I learned how to prevent or identify when it is coming close, this morning I felt it and right away occupied my mind in something else so I decided to fight it making a necklace. I learned macrame when I was a teenager and never do it again so it was a little happy moment, remembering good past and making something pretty.



Un collarcito que me ayudo a prevenir la depresion, en mi pasado sufria mucho de depresion pero aprendi a evitarla naturalmente, sin medicinas que te envenenan, nada mejor que hacer una pieza que me recuerde momentos felices.

I opened my inbox this morning and read this beautiful surprise, somebody got inspired on one of my paintings and wrote a poem, I wish I can translated to English as good it is in Spanish.

ELLA ES AZUL

Dentro
Muy dentro
O arriba
Piramidal ascenso
Repito mis reflejos
Una sola
Tantas veces muda
ante el cuadro dentro del cuadro dentro del cuadro…
obseso de las horas repetidas
Cuántas veces reiteran los espejos
la misma oquedad azul que cuadra el eco
Célico espiral transcurre
Es la resonancia de una cabellera indómita
tomando al espejo por asalto
para advertir a la quietud
que no nos mueve tanto movimiento
que somos hondos
si miras desde afuera
ingentes si miras desde adentro
y que hay un vacío en medio de los sueños
cuando no cuadra el cielo
con la última mirada
que no nos devolvemos.

Mold making

Ok I wasn't planning broadcasting today but I did for couple of hours and not having a specific inspiration I decided to make some molds, one is a tile-favor for my wedding and the other just an experiment for textures and letters.

No planeaba estar en video hoy pero lo hice por un par de horas, pues ya que no estaba muy inspirada decidi terminar unos moldes, uno es un diseno para recuerdos de mi boda y el otro solo un experimento de texturas y letras.
